NetSuite Next is coming: what’s changing?

NetSuite Next is coming: what’s changing?

NetSuite Next refreshes the NetSuite environment you use today. Oracle is adding a new user interface, Ask Oracle, and other built-in AI capabilities to the same platform. Your data, roles, permissions, workflows, and customizations will remain intact. The transition requires no data migration or reimplementation.

That continuity is reassuring, but it also requires attention. The configuration you bring over will help determine what users will be able to find, understand, and do in the future. NetSuite Next is therefore a good opportunity to assess where your current environment still aligns with your organization’s needs and where improvements are needed.

What is NetSuite Next?

NetSuite Next is the next generation of NetSuite. It is not a separate ERP system, but a new experience on the existing NetSuite platform. AI plays a greater role in searching, analyzing, navigating, and performing tasks.

NetSuite Next in 1 minute

NetSuite Next was first announced during SuiteWorld 2025. For users, three things immediately stand out:

  • A redesigned user interface based on Oracle’s Redwood Design System
  • Ask Oracle, the AI assistant available from various locations within NetSuite
  • Additional AI capabilities, including AI Canvas, automated insights, and agents

The rollout began in 2026. The features available vary by country, account, and phase of the rollout. As a result, announced features are not automatically available in every NetSuite environment.

A new UI based on Redwood

NetSuite Next uses Oracle’s Redwood Design System. Parts of this design are already visible in the optional Redwood Experience theme. NetSuite Next also revamps the homepage, navigation, lists, forms, and reports, among other features.

The homepage is becoming more of a workspace where tasks and relevant information come together. For lists and forms, Oracle has showcased features such as smart filters, AI Search, in-context actions, and a more consistent layout. Reports are displayed in a clearer, more organized manner. The new experience is designed for various screen sizes and also includes dark mode.

The new interface also changes the path to information and actions. Role Centers, dashboards, saved searches, and frequently used features remain relevant but may appear in a different location or format.

Not every component of NetSuite Next will offer exactly the same capabilities as the current interface from the start. Oracle notes that users can temporarily switch back to the existing view for certain lists and records. Therefore, be sure to test processes in which navigation, forms, dashboards, and UI-dependent customizations play a key role.

Our view: When switching, start by evaluating the components that define day-to-day use: forms, navigation, Role Centers, and customizations that directly affect the interface. Otherwise, you’ll carry over the problems users currently experience in those areas to the new user experience.

Ask Oracle: ask questions instead of searching first

Ask Oracle is the AI assistant within NetSuite. You can use natural language to find information, analyze data, navigate to records or tasks and get support with actions within your existing way of working.

Suppose you want to know which customers generated less revenue this quarter than in the previous quarter. Today, you might open a report, find the right saved search, configure filters and compare the results. With Ask Oracle, the process starts with the question itself. The assistant then helps find the relevant data and can further break down or visualize the results.

This makes Ask Oracle particularly useful for ad hoc questions, analysis and navigation. A controller can investigate a variance. An account manager can gather relevant customer context more quickly. A user who does not know the correct route through NetSuite can be guided more directly to a record, report or task.

Ask Oracle operates within the roles, permissions and workflows already configured in your account. Users therefore do not gain access to data or actions outside their existing authorization. Oracle also provides insight into the data and reasoning behind answers so that users can validate the outcome. For financial, operational or other material decisions, that validation remains essential.

Saved searches, dashboards and reports continue to serve their own purpose. Use Ask Oracle to explore and ask follow-up questions. If a question becomes a fixed KPI, control or recurring management report, define it in a managed saved search, workbook, dashboard or report.

In this in-depth article, you can read more about what Ask Oracle can do and when you should validate answers.

AI Canvas, automated insights and agents

In addition to Ask Oracle, Oracle has announced and demonstrated AI Canvas, automated insights, and various agent-based workflows. The exact functionality and availability may vary by account and rollout phase.

In AI Canvas, users can aggregate data from NetSuite, perform analyses, and collaborate on a problem. Automated summaries and insights appear directly alongside records and reports. For example, they can highlight anomalies, risks, or notable trends before a user searches for them.

Agents go a step further and can also prepare a task or next step. Oracle has demonstrated applications related to returns analysis, financial close, and payment proposals. Roles, permissions, and approvals continue to determine which data and actions are available.

The level of control you need depends on what the AI is doing. When insights are generated automatically, it must, of course, be clear which data and definitions were used. If an agent also prepares an action, it must be established who is responsible for approving it and what is documented for subsequent review.

What stays the same when you move to NetSuite Next?

NetSuite Next builds on your existing account. Data and configuration are not migrated to a new system. Transactions recorded in one experience are also visible in the other.

What carries over to NetSuite Next?

Your existing setup remains in place. These are the areas that deserve a review.

Overview of what remains in NetSuite and what deserves attention
What remains in place What deserves your attention
Data, transactions and records Data quality, definitions and ownership of important data
Roles and permissions Historically accumulated access, temporary permissions and differences between comparable roles
Workflows, custom records and most scripts Client scripts, custom forms and portlets that depend directly on the user interface or page structure
Saved searches, dashboards and reports Which of these still serve a current control, management information or process function
Customizations and integrations Overlapping automation, unclear mappings and customizations whose purpose is no longer clear

Oracle expects that scripts, custom records, workflows, and other extensions will, in principle, continue to function. However, some client scripts, custom forms, and portlet scripts that directly affect the HTML or page structure may require adjustments. In the article on technical debt and historical choices in NetSuite, you can read about which components warrant a targeted review.

Why your current NetSuite setup is now even more important

Ask Oracle uses your account’s existing data, roles, permissions, customizations, and navigation structure. This foundation directly impacts the usefulness of answers, insights, and actions.

A duplicate customer record can fragment an analysis. An unclear margin definition can lead to different yet defensible answers. A temporary permission that was never revoked still determines which information someone can retrieve. And a workflow that supports an outdated process remains part of the same environment.

A complete clean-up is rarely necessary. Start with the areas that affect current processes, reporting, decision-making and the use cases you want to explore with NetSuite Next.

A complete cleanup is usually not necessary at all. Start with the components that affect current processes, reports, decision-making, and the use cases you want to explore with NetSuite Next. Oracle identifies five areas in this regard: prompting, customizations, data quality, roles and permissions, and navigation and Role Centers. Cadran breaks these down into four interrelated areas of focus.

Four Areas to Focus on in Your Preparation

  • Data: Review the information and definitions that users need for key processes and decisions.
  • Customizations and processes: Assess scripts, workflows, integrations, and customizations that are critical to day-to-day operations.
  • Roles and governance: Define who has access, who is responsible, and what controls are in place.
  • User experience and AI adoption: Prepare users for different ways of searching, navigating, asking questions, and verifying results.

Start preparing for NetSuite Next with a limited number of relevant processes and use cases. An assessment at the field or script level will only be conducted where those processes warrant it.

What does NetSuite Next mean for different roles in your organization?

The impact varies by role and process. Finance focuses primarily on the reliability of insights, IT on security and maintainability, and application management on day-to-day operations. Operations, process owners, executive management, and key users are also involved in decisions regarding processes, governance, and the use of AI.

For Finance: reliable insights require clear definitions

For Finance, Ask Oracle can help investigate variances in revenue, margin, working capital, or period-end closing more quickly. The results are actionable when it is clear which period, entity, definition, and source were used.

That is why KPI definitions, classifications, reports, and financial controls remain paramount. A source reference aids in verification but does not replace it. Finance must be able to compare key insights with trusted reports and underlying transactions. Read more about verifiable AI insights for Finance here .

For IT and NetSuite owners: historical complexity remains part of the environment

Scripts, workflows, integrations, and custom records have often evolved alongside the organization. Some components have become difficult to maintain, overlap with standard functionality, or depend on the knowledge of a single administrator.

Technical debt remains a management and configuration issue. It does not create a separate migration problem. Determine which aspects of complexity impact reliability, maintenance, security, testability, and future AI use cases. The IT perspective on technical debt helps make that assessment.

For application management: use recurring questions to prioritize the backlog

Application managers often know where NetSuite is causing issues: a saved search with outdated filters, a custom field with multiple meanings, a role with overly broad access, or a Role Center full of old links. Such issues aren’t always prioritized.

Link the management issue to the affected process, the users, and the necessary decision. Then “modifying a custom field” becomes a conversation about data quality and ownership. Read how, as an application administrator, you can translate the backlog into shared priorities.

Availability and a sensible first step

NetSuite Next is being rolled out in phases. The rollout with release 2026.2 has begun in the United States and Canada. Other countries will follow later. As soon as an account becomes eligible, the NetSuite administrator will receive a notification in their environment.

Three ways to get started

Once your account is eligible, you can get started in several ways:

  1. Explore it first in a preview account
You test NetSuite Next in a separate copy of your production environment.
  2. Activate it directly in production
You make NetSuite Next immediately available in your existing environment.
  3. Gradually expand access
An Administrator configures access by role, allowing teams to transition at different times.

A NetSuite Next Preview Account contains your existing data, workflows, and customizations. What you do there has no effect on production. According to current Oracle documentation, the preview remains available for 30 days.

Use the preview as a test environment

Do not try to assess the entire environment during this period. Select two or three processes in which data, roles, customizations and user actions come together. Then investigate:

  • which tasks users can perform more easily or quickly;
  • which questions they ask Ask Oracle and how useful the answers are;
  • whether the outcomes align with existing reports and controls;
  • where the setup, authorizations or ways of working still require attention.

Involve users with different roles and let them work with recognizable situations from their day-to-day work. For each finding, document what needs to happen and who is responsible.

Based on this test, you can decide whether to roll out further, make improvements first or temporarily restrict access to specific roles.
